The “Not” Journal
I Am Not What I Feel. I Am Who God Says I Am!
Our identity is rooted in God’s declaration rather than fluctuating emotions. Negative circumstances often stir emotions that begin to define how we see ourselves and how we respond. David understood this struggle. Throughout the Psalms, he honestly expressed his feelings to God, proclaimed God’s unchanging character, and surrendered his perspective to God’s Truth. By trusting who God is, David was able to rise above his circumstances and experience God’s peace.
The “Not” Journals guide individuals through that same process. Each journal helps users:
- Explore and identify their emotions.
- Focus on God’s attributes and character.
- Pray for God to reveal His Truth in their situation.
- Listen for the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
- Recognize how emotions are connected to personal circumstances.
- Trust that God is greater than and in control of every situation.
- Surrender their identity to who God says they are rather than to how they feel.
Each journal is thematic including lessons from David, Elijah, and/or individuals who encountered Jesus, providing biblical models for understanding emotions, knowing God’s character, and responding faithfully during circumstances beyond one’s control. Writing thoughts and prayers in the journal becomes an act of meditation allowing the mind, will, and emotions to align with the Truth the Holy Spirit is teaching. Because spiritual maturity develops over time, the journals are available in both beginner and advanced levels.
